Report: Nottingham Forest could sign £25,000-a-week loanee for bargain price this summer

Nottingham Forest defender Gonzalo Montiel is perhaps facing an uncertain summer transfer window.

The Sevilla defender was signed on a season-long loan by Forest back in the summer of 2023.

Forest included a clause to buy Montiel in the deal but he’s not played enough games to meet that requirement.

Instead, he’s going to return to Sevilla and now the La Liga club will hope to sell him on.

Ahead of the transfer window, some details have now come to light that might be very interesting to Forest.

Gonzalo Montiel now available at bargain price

Forest included a deal that would see them pay £9 million for Montiel should he play in 50% of the team’s Premier League games.

That won’t happen now and the Reds aren’t obliged to stump up that cash.

Now, he’s going back to Sevilla and they’re going to reduce his valuation considerably.

According to Vamos Mi Sevilla FC, the 27-year-old is now going to be available for around £3 million in the summer.

Sevilla are desperate to cash in on the £25,000-a-week defender and want to sell him quickly.

Lowering his valuation will certainly aid them in their attempts and River Plate have been linked with a move for Montiel.

Forest must move on from Montiel

In our view, this is a deal that Forest just shouldn’t entertain during the summer transfer window.

The Reds have better options already in the squad, with Neco Williams and Ola Aina both enjoying decent campaigns.

According to Who Scored, Montiel is below Forest defender Williams in terms of tackles made this season.

The young Welsh player has been vastly improved and he looks like starting next season as the number one in that position.
