‘Got to be ready’: Manuel Akanji shares what Man City need to do to beat West Ham United this weekend

Manuel Akanji has shared his thoughts on Manchester City’s upcoming Premier League match against West Ham United.

On Sunday, the Blues could lift their sixth Premier League title in seven years if the beat David Moyes’ side for their final match of the campaign before next weekend’s FA Cup final.

After beating Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 away from home on Tuesday evening, the Manchester club put themselves two points ahead of Arsenal at the top of the league table, leaving them just one victory away from winning another title.

Looking ahead to Sunday’s showdown against the East London club, Akanji has shared his early preview for the game and City’s preparations for it.

Speaking to the club’s media, Akanji had this to say about Sunday’s game and what he’s expecting from the Hammers.

He said: “We have to get the three points against West Ham which won’t be easy – we’ve got to be ready for that fight.

“It’s really important – we’ve played the same number of games as Arsenal now and now we’re first.

“We’ve got everything in our hands. It’s our goal to do it. If you can win the title at home in front of our own fans – there’s no better feeling than that. We have to show up in front of our own fans to win the four titles in a row.

“We’ve got to recover well and prepare ourselves. We’ve got time to prepare – they have good offensive players and defensively, they are big and physically strong and also good on set-pieces. That’s what we’ve got to be ready for.”

City must not slip up against West Ham

Heading into this big game, City have won their eight previous league games, scoring 30 goals and conceding just five in the process.

In comparison, the Hammers have only won two of their six previous league outings, drawing one and losing three.

While the home side are in a strong run of form and West Ham aren’t, the Manchester club can’t afford to make any mistakes and must win this game to land another league title and strengthen their status as the best team in the country.
