Mark Damon sadly dies at 91

The actor passed away of natural causes in Los Angeles, his daughter, Alexis Damon Ribaut, told The Hollywood Reporter.

His appearance in House of Usher won the star a Golden Globe, for New Star of the Year, and he continued his career in Europe starring in spaghetti Westerns.

Upon returning back to the States, Damon helped to invent independent film financing and also made his way into producing.

He worked as an executive producer on blockbusters including the 1981 war film, Das Boot, which was nominated for six Oscar Awards.

Short Circuit, The Lost Boys and 8 Million Ways to Die were also among the films he produced. Notably, he worked as a producer on 2003’s Monster, in which Charlize Theron won an Oscar for Best Actress.

Damon’s sad death comes just days after the passing of Roger Corman, who produced over 400 movies directing House of Usher, in which Damon starred. Roger passed away on May 9 at his home in Santa Monica, California at 98.

“His films were revolutionary and iconoclastic and captured the spirit of an age. When asked how he would like to be remembered, he said, ‘I was a filmmaker, just that,'” his family wrote in an Instagram statement.

Mark is survived by his wife, Maggie Markov Damon, his son Jonathan, his daughter Alexis Damon Ribaut, and his son-in-law Mathieu Ribaut.

Tributes pour in for the star – ‘taught me everything I know about the business’

Screen writer Scott Collette penned: “My boss for a decade. Helped build the foreign pre-sale business that has long empowered independents to flourish. Taught me everything I know about the business, and was always happy to tell me stories about his sixty-year career. A sad day.”

A fourth wrote: “And another classic actor gone. RIP Mark Damon.”
