‘Nerves were jangling’: Paul Merson shares if he thinks Man City will beat West Ham to win the title this weekend

Paul Merson has shared his prediction for Manchester City’s upcoming final Premier League game of the season against West Ham United.

With the Citizens now two points ahead of Arsenal at the top of the table after beating Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 in midweek, a win over the Hammers on Sunday would see them become the first side to win four Premier League titles in a row.

Looking ahead to this big showdown at the Etihad Stadium between last season’s Champions League winners and Europa Conference winners, one pundit and former top-flight star has shared his thoughts on how it will pan out.

In his latest column for Sportskeeda where he previewed and predicted the scores for this Sunday’s final week of Premier League fixtures, Merson had this to say about City’s match against West Ham and the title race.

He said: “I think everyone believes Manchester City will retain their Premier League crown after beating Tottenham Hotspur, but if football was that straightforward, we wouldn’t watch it!

“I’m not holding my breath and hoping for West Ham United to get a result against Manchester City, but you never know what could happen.

“Heung-min Son’s one-v-one miss against Stefan Ortega would be a pivotal moment in the title race – who’d have thought the Tottenham man would miss from such a position?

“As the curtain draws on yet another Premier League season, will it be Arsenal or Manchester City for domestic glory? Manchester City have done their job and look well to win their record-breaking fourth Premier League title in a row.

“This is a nice game for them to play on the last day of the season but they have to score early to ease the nerves.

“Against Tottenham, their nerves were jangling and they only started playing free-flowing football after Erling Haaland’s second goal.

“A lot of things can happen on the last day of the season and scoring first should be the name of the game for both Man City and Arsenal. Manchester City 2-0 West Ham United.”

City are favourites to beat West Ham and win the Premier League

Having not lost a league game since December, and only drawing four matches since then, the form City are in suggests that they are heavy favourites to win this match.

With the Blues also having a lot of experience when it comes to ending their title races with consistent victories, a lot of City supporters will feel confident that their side will do the same again this time around.

Now that Merson, despite his hopes of seeing his old side beat City to the league, has predicted the Blues to beat West Ham on Sunday, the only thing left is for the players to make it happen and bring an end to what would be another successful Premier League campaign.
