Jermaine Beckford delivers instant reaction as Leeds hammer Norwich to reach Championship playoff final

Leeds United have booked their place at Wembley after running out 4-0 winners over Norwich City in their Championship playoff semi-final second leg on Thursday.

The Whites were held to a 0-0 draw at Carrow Road last week, making it all to play for when Daniel Farke’s charges hosted the Canaries at Elland Road.

Any anxiety Leeds fans may have had early on in the game was quickly eased as the Whites took the lead within the first 10 minutes.

Ilia Gruev completely caught Norwich goalkeeper Angus Gunn out with a quick free kick in the seventh minute to put Leeds ahead.

in 20th minute, Leeds doubled their advantage as Wilfried Gnonto delivered a pinpoint cross into the box for Joel Piroe to head home.

By this point, the Whites were in cruise control and went on to score a third against Norwich and virtually end the game as a contest.

Crysencio Summerville was under pressure from the opposition defence in the box, but still managed to hook the ball towards Georginio Rutter, who duly hammered home.

Summerville then went from provider to goalscorer on 68 minutes as he slotted home from Junior Firpo’s cutback to wrap up a famous victory for Leeds.

It was a glorious night at Elland Road and everyone connected with Leeds is absolutely buzzing, including club cult hero Jermaine Beckford.

What did Jermaine Beckford say about Leeds win over Norwich?

The former Whites striker took to X to say: “What a team we are, Wembley see you soon”.

Leeds will play either Southampton or West Bromwich Albion at Wembley on Sunday 26 May for a place in the Premier League.

The second leg of the other Championship playoff semi-final takes place at St Mary’s Stadium on Friday night.
