Everything Mark Kingston said after South Carolina’s 9-3 loss to Tennessee

Following South Carolina’s series-opening loss to Tennessee, head coach Mark Kingston spoke to the media about the game. Here’s what he had to say.

On how the game got away from the team tonight

“How did it get away from us? They started hitting some homers, that’s how it got away from us. I know the score doesn’t indicate it, but I thought we played pretty well. The defenses both played well, no errors. They had nine hits, we had eight. But they ran the ball out of the ballpark today, like Georgia did last weekend. And that was the difference.”

On how to keep the game from unraveling at this point in the season

“You’ve got to make good pitches. Ty was a little unlike himself tonight where he just had very little command. He had the four walks and fell behind most of the hitters. When you fall behind these hitters, they’re going to do some damage.”

On Ty Good’s command issues tonight

“I don’t know if he was too amped up cause he got another start. But with Ty, we’ve got to find the right comfort zone for him just so he’s at his best.”

On if he knows who he wants to start on the mound tomorrow

“I need to talk to Matt just to make sure.”

On what happened at the plate for the offense

“I mean, we had eight hits on a Friday night in the SEC, that’s not terrible. Obviously, we had a couple guys that went 0-for but a couple guys that had really good nights. Just got to get as many guys as possible to have good nights at the same time on a Friday night in the SEC.”
