Exclusive: Aston Villa move for ‘outstanding’ £34m target now depends on one ‘big’ factor

Aston Villa will hope to build on the success of the 2023/24 campaign by having a strong summer in the transfer window, with one target for Unai Emery and Monchi to chase now revealed.

What a season it’s been for Aston Villa who on Tuesday, saw their Champions League fate confirmed as Unai Emery’s side secured a fourth-place finish in the Premier League.

The Midlands club can now begin to take their foot off the gas with just one fixture remaining of the 2023/24 calendar, a trip to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace.

While all attention will be on the final game of the season, some thought will be spared concerning the club’s plans in the summer transfer window, as Emery bids to bolster his squad with additional star quality.

Now that Villa are a Champions League side once again, the Spaniard will want to have the luxury squad to match, with one high-class player that the Villans are admirers of now revealed to be a former Premier League star.

Aston Villa could target Leeds United winger Crysencio Summerville on one condition

Emery and Monchi may be tempted to strengthen Villa’s attack this summer, with Leeds United sensation Crysencio Summerville a player now linked to Villa Park.

Speaking exclusively to Aston Villa News, HITC journalist Graeme Bailey explained that while he was ‘not surprised’ that the Midlands club are linked to the player, there could be a hurdle to overcome to sign him.

“He’s a top prospect, he’s got a lot of the big Premier League clubs looking at him, I’m not surprised to see Villa linked amongst them.

“With him, if Leeds go up, I don’t think he leaves. That’s the big thing for him.

“I can see him being the type of player that Emery likes, so it doesn’t surprise me to hear the link.”

Reports in the Netherlands suggest that Leeds could ask for a fee up to €40m (£34m) for their star man, who has been on fire in the Championship this season.

Signing Crysencio Summerville would be perfect for Aston Villa

While Aston Villa have an array of attacking talent in their ranks, the squad is marginally short on wide players with the traditional direct traits of a winger.

In some respects, only Leon Bailey fits such a category, considering that Moussa Diaby plays a more central role in Emery’s system.

Crysencio Summerville 2023/24 Championship vs Aston Villa wide players 2023/24 Premier League

Summerville is destined to be an in-demand player this summer, with Villa’s links to the Leeds star an exciting prospect, as the Dutchman was named the Championship Player of the Season.

With 30 goal contributions in 40 appearances in all competitions for Daniel Farke’s side this term, the 22-year-old is in searing form, something he has maintained for the duration of the campaign.

The low-risk element that could come with targeting a player such as Summerville is his experience of playing in the Premier League, where in the 2022/23 calendar, the left-winger scored four goals and claimed two assists at Elland Road.

Lauded as “outstanding” by his manager, the 2001-born ace could be destined for a Premier League return, with Bailey outlining the importance of Leeds’ promotion in the case of retaining their prized asset.
