£25m Liverpool player ‘has offers’ from Premier League clubs to join them this summer

The Liverpool squad looks set for a little bit of reshaping once the summer transfer window gets underway.

With Michael Edwards overseeing things, the Reds appear ready to to cut loose on a number of players, as well bringing in a couple more.

Not all of these player’s futures will be sorted yet, though. There could perhaps be a handful making their final Anfield appearances this Sunday, some unwittingly so.

Concern remains over the futures of the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold. Will they still be here next season? We don’t know for sure.

There are a couple more who’s next steps are already concrete, though. And in the case of Thiago Alcantara, it looks like he now has a firm idea on where he’ll be playing in 2024/25.

Thiago has offers on the table

There have been a few regrets during Jurgen Klopp’s time at the club. It’s hard not to imagine what could have been had the results of just a few games been changed.

But, in our opinion, there are few things to rue more than the way Thiago’s Liverpool career has ended up since his £25m move from Bayern Munich.

We have seen flashes of brilliance from the 33-year-old. He was a key reason why the Reds so nearly won an unbelievable quadruple two years ago.

However, he has managed just 98 appearances across four seasons. Having played only five minutes of football this term, he has become a forgotten figure. For a player so good, that is a travesty.

Nevertheless, Thiago will be an attractive free agent this summer. And as journalist Lu Martin has declared on Spanish show Carrusel Deportivo, there’s now a chance that the Spaniard stays in the Premier League.

“Thiago Alcantara does not renew with Liverpool,” Martin reports. “Girona is a possibility, but I think they have an offer from Betis to return to Spain and they have offers to continue in England.”

Are Liverpool making a mistake with Thiago

Had Thiago been able to get on the pitch more often this season, then maybe he could have convinced Liverpool to extend his contract.

The former Barcelona man is one of the most gifted midfielders of his generation after all.

But Thiago is one of the club’s top earners, too. There’s no way the likes of Edwards could justify handing another big contract out to someone with such little playing time under his belt.

Having said that, maybe there was still something that could have been worked out. With teams of good standing looking at him, maybe Thiago isn’t finished just yet. Some kind of hybrid contract could have kept him around with no risk to Liverpool’s coffers.

If he ends up at another Premier League side and manages to stay fit, it’s going to be a sickener. Oh what could have been.
