Updated top 25 running back recruits in the On3 Industry Ranking

Official visit season is nearing full-swing as many of the top prospects in the nation continue to search for their home at the next level. Looking at the running back position in the 2025 cycle, some of the best burners in the class have already come off the board, but a load of talent remains up for grabs.

Of the top 25 RBs in the On3 Industry Ranking, 14 are currently pledged to Power Four programs. That includes five of the top 10 in the cycle.

Below are the top 25 running backs in the On3 Industry Ranking and where they are committed, as of May 17.

1. Harlem Berry — LSU commit

School: Metairie (La.) St. Martin’s Episcopal
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 16

Scouting Summary: Harlem Berry is the most electric running back in the 2025 cycle. Possesses elite burst and effortless movement skills. Measured in at over 5-foot-10 and around 180 pounds prior to his junior season. Registers as a high end athlete with elite speed on the track and in the combine setting. Won state titles in the 100 and 200 meters as a sophomore with times of 10.57 seconds and 21.43 seconds, respectively. Most importantly, transfers his outstanding top end speed onto the field in a functional way. A threat to take it to the house on any touch. A light, springy mover who shifts gears and changes directions at full speed. Displays outstanding vision. Reads blocks and bursts through the line to the second level. The game moves slow for him at the prep level. Runs through contact and shows balance that belies his size. Catches the ball well out of the backfield and projects as a viable option on passing downs.”

2. Akylin Dear — Ole Miss commit

School: Quitman (Miss.)
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 29

Scouting Summary: Akylin Dear is a true three-down back that has all of the physical, athletic and technical ability to walk in and carry the load for an offense the day he steps on campus. He has the frame to add the necessary mass in order to become a bell cow back. Stands in at 6’0, 200 pounds with an advanced physical build. Strong, between the tackles runner who is light on his feet with excellent wiggle. Has the top end speed to hit the homerun ball. Great forward body lean that runs behind his pads making him a load to bring down for defenders. Comfortable pass catcher and ball tracker downfield. Put together strong workouts in the spring camp setting prior to his senior season. One of the most complete players in the entire 2025 recruiting cycle.”

3. Gideon Davidson — Clemson commit

School: Lynchburg (Va.) Liberty Christian
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 44

On Davidson: Liberty Christian Academy coach Frank Rocco doesn’t hold back when talking about Gideon Davidson. “Gideon’s our warrior,” LCA coach Frank Rocco told The News & Advance. “He’s going to get the ball. He’s going to compete until he runs out of gas.” Davidson never ran out of gas in his junior year of high school football. During his 2023 season, Davidson finished the year with 2,752 rushing yards and 43 touchdowns. In the 14 games during the season, Davidson averaged 194 rushing yards per game and 12.9 yards per carry while leading his team to its first ever state championship. That success helped him earn MaxPreps Junior Player of the Year honors. “He’s just a naturally gifted freak is what he is,” Rocco said. “It’s just all natural. As he continues to learn the game of football and the specific techniques and the cerebral part of the game, he’s going to be just unbelievable.”

4. Ousmane Kromah

School: Leesburg (Ga.) Lee County
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 68
On3 RPM: Florida State 28.4%, Georgia 24.8%, Auburn 14.3%, Miami 11.9%

Scouting Summary: Ousmane Kromah is a true every down back with an extremely well-rounded skill set. Has readymade size, checking in at 6-foot-0.5 and around 215 pounds prior to his junior season. Has a unique build with very long arms and a bow-legged gait. A productive workhorse for one of the top high school programs in south Georgia. Averaged over 160 rushing yards per game as a sophomore and junior and 10 yards per carry as a junior. An extremely tough runner who is very difficult to bring down on contact. Trucks and carries defenders at the second level. Not going down with an arm tackle. Shows good burst and play speed and is capable of ripping off long runs with regularity. A plus receiver and one of the more natural pass-catchers among high school running back prospects. Even splits out to receiver on passing downs for his high school. A big-time mismatch in the passing game and already runs routes at a high level. Doubles as a good basketball player averaging over 10 points per game as a sophomore for a team that made a deep run in the state playoffs. Older for the class, turning 18 years-old in December of his junior year. Though he projects as one of the top running backs in the 2025 cycle, has the potential to also be a star at other spots.”

5. Jordon Davison

School: Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 90
On3 RPM: Ohio State 81.3%, Texas 10.7%

Jordon Davison on his recruitment: “I am looking for the best opportunity. Relationships are essential, how running backs are used in the offense and where I have a chance to win will be things I look for in the future … It will come down to opportunity and where I feel is the best place I can thrive at. I want to be around good people, have support beyond football and be at the right place to succeed.”

6. Michael Turner

School: North Richland Hills (Texas) Richland
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 96
On3 RPM: SMU 98.8%

On Turner: Richland coach Ged Kates isn’t afraid to complement Michael Turner because he knows Turner won’t let it go his head. “Michael has always looked like a grown man, but in his junior season, he played like one,” Kates told the Dallas Morning News. “His ability is through the roof, but I’m just as proud of his giving heart and the kind of teammate that he has become.” Turner earned first-team all-district honors as a sophomore after a season where he ran for 849 yards and 12 touchdowns. Then as a junior, Turner exploded with 1,625 yards and 22 rushing scores. Through his first three seasons of varsity football, he averaged 7.8 yards per carry and reached the end zone 36 times.

7. Anthony Rogers — Alabama commit

School: Montgomery (Ala.) Carver
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 108

Scouting Summary: Anthony Rogers starts off with a great burst and is very explosive. He had really good track times during his freshman year, but was also showing off the speed on the field- that’s what’s most important when evaluating a running back. He has a compact built- sturdy at his height. He showed game-breaking ability as a freshman. We saw him do even more as a sophomore when he averaged 8.7 yards per carry. He is really fast in the first 10 yards. You see that on the field. He has really good contact balance and plays with a low center of gravity. He has good vision and runs through arm tackles. He can take on a bigger load and not just be a complimentary speed piece to an offense.

8. Alvin Henderson — Penn State commit

School: Elba (Ala.)
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 115

Scouting Summary: Alvin Henderson is the most productive of the top running back prospects in this cycle coming out of his junior season. He plays at a lower level in Alabama, but he is utterly dominant against that competition, as you would expect from a blue-chip prospect. As a junior, he ran for over 3,500 yards and 61 touchdowns at 15.7 yards per carry. I think he’ll probably go down as one of the top rushers in the state of Alabama’s history and he may even register on some national record books. That’s one thing that is apparent pretty quickly when you’re looking at him as a prospect. He just dominates his competition. From a skill set perspective, he’s fairly well-rounded across the board.”

9. James Simon

School: Shreveport (La.) Calvary Baptist
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 150
On3 RPM: Texas 81.4%, LSU 13.7%

Scouting Take: James Simon is devastating as a cut-and-run style of runner and can accelerate in a hurry. Simon extends plays with his contact balance and by running through tacklers. He’s been a workhorse the entire season, which included re-writing the record books at his high school and matching his father John Simon’s touchdown total from his state title run in the 1990s. There are few backs in the 2025 class as well-rounded as Simon, a true between-the-tacklers runner with the speed to break off long runs and a true asset in the passing game.”

10. Byron Louis

School: Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) American Heritage
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 175
On3 RPM: Florida State 38.8%, Miami 31.9%, Ohio State 25.2%

Byron Louis on his recruitment: “I will focus on these schools (FSU, Miami, Ohio State and Wisconsin) most and these are the schools I will primarily talk to and focus on right now. All four are great schools that produce great running backs. If you want to be the best, you have to play with the best and get coached by the best … that factored a lot into my decision to focus on these. All four schools and coaches have a history with my position.”
