The Florida Gators are currently playing their first game of the Gainesville Regional, hosting the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles on Friday afternoon.

At the moment, they’re leading 2-0. Gators coach Tim Walton joined the SEC Network broadcast to give some thoughts on how team’s awesome play, and where they’re going to go from here.

“I think there’s quite a few things that have changed. You know, I think getting Skylar Wallace at full strength offensively is a huge get. Keagan [Rothrock] has really improved herself. Matured, got better. But we’ve gotten better,” Walton stated. “We’ve gotten a tick better — even some of our losses, we still keep seeing we’re getting better, getting better.

“I think this team enjoys playing with each other. We do a good job, and we compliment each other so well.”

Florida Gulf Coast has pitched well and played some good defense, but Walton credited the Gators for staying the course, and forcing some errors from the Eagles, which led to a Florida lead.

“This kid’s pitching really good,” Walton added. “She’s got good spin. You can tell we’re getting a lot of the top of the ball. When we do get it elevated, it’s not carrying very well. So she’s doing a good job with her spin. We’re just trying to make our little adjustments, find the bottom of the ball as much as we possibly can, get our back knee dirty. Find a way to get up underneath it.

“But you know, the speed and the defensive switch right here … just trying to be a little aggressive, and take advantage of some defensive miscue potential.”

Alas, there’s a lot of game left between Florida and Florida Gulf Coast. The Gators are looking for a win, and to continue to stay hot as they take on the Eagles in Gainesville.
