What Mauricio Pochettino has now said about Tottenham as Chelsea battle for fifth on Sunday

Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has now issued a message on his former side ahead of this weekend.

Chelsea go into Sunday’s final day of the season needing Tottenham to slip up in their trip to Sheffield United if they are to finish fifth.

Meanwhile, Ange Postecoglou‘s side need just a point from their game against the Blades to confirm fifth place – alternatively, a result for Bournemouth against Chelsea would do the trick.

This comes after a feisty night at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium when Manchester City came to town on Tuesday night.

The fixture saw Postecoglou explode both during the game and after the game with the narrative hanging over the club that they’d lose the game to hinder Arsenal’s title hopes.

Chelsea find themselves in a similar situation this weekend in needing Tottenham to drop points against the Blades if they are to finish fifth.

And Pochettino has now commented on the notion of wishing his former side bad luck for the weekend.

Mauricio Pochettino issues Tottenham message ahead of Sunday

Postecoglou’s first season in charge of Tottenham had produced a lot of positives but it has not been completely smooth sailing.

One of the negatives to take from the campaign has been conceding six points to what has been an underwhelming Chelsea side.

It has been a difficult week for Poestocoglou who has now admitted he felt his integrity was being questioned ahead of the City game.

Although Champions League football is now out of the picture, Spurs can provide their fans with a positive ending to the season by securing fifth spot.

Speaking to the media ahead of Chelsea’s final game of the season on Sunday, Pochettino has insisted he does not wish any bad luck on his former side.

“Not really, I never wish bad things for the club. We need to do our job,” the Argentine said from Cobham.

Mauricio Pochettino has now showed Spurs they have competition for next season

Spurs have had a fairly free run at fifth spot for the majority of the season as they pushed Aston Villa up until the final week.

Manchester United and Newcastle United have not quite looked the teams that some may have expected them to be this season.

And then there is Chelsea, going back a few months the Blues looked set for a bottom half finish in the table.

However, Pochettino has now seemingly begun to get his philosophy through to his players at Chelsea.

And they have caught up with Tottenham dramatically over recent weeks as Spurs have stuttered along.

Although there will be improvements made at Tottenham over the summer, these past few months may be an indication Pochettino’s beginning to get the wheels turning at Chelsea.
