Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta reveals honest thoughts on Heung-min Son’s miss for Tottenham v Manchester City

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has now revealed his thoughts on Heung-min Son’s miss for Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday.

After a long week of talk surrounding the game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Tuesday night is now almost over.

Tottenham travel to Sheffield United on Sunday to play their final game of the campaign with fifth place on the line.

But Tuesday’s game did provide one of the talking points of the season when Heung-min Son squandered a huge opportunity to equalise against Manchester City.

The South Korean captain uncharacteristically failed to beat the City goalkeeper in a one-on-one situation.

This has since seen a lot of Arsenal fans left furious with the 31-year-old usually so prolific from those kind of opportunities.

With the Gunners’ title hopes taking a big blow as a result, even the Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has had his say on the Tottenham forward’s miss.

What Mikel Arteta has said about Heung-min Son’s miss v Manchester City

Frustratingly for Tottenham, any hope of finishing in the top four was also lost on Tuesday night in their game against Pep Guardiola’s side.

In a season of progression under Ange Postecoglou, the best Spurs can now do is to earn themselves a fifth-placed finish to claim Europa League football.

But going into the summer, there are clear areas for improvement to be made with Postecoglou aiming to close the gap between City and Arsenal at the top.

And adding a top-quality striker to relieve the burden off Son’s shoulders is certainly one thing being targeted by Spurs.

Speaking in his press conference on Friday, the Arsenal boss revealed his honest thoughts on Son’s squandered chance against City.

“My kids running around the table and going like this [head in hands]. You can imagine,” he said.

“That is magic as well, to have the opportunity to be living it, next to your family and next to your colleagues. Being part of that.

“If I had to pick a player in the Premier League for that moment, it probably would be him. Michael Jordan explained it many times, how many times he had the winning shot.‌ It was always him. Sometimes yes, sometimes he did not manage to do it. This is the beauty of sport, as well. What can you do?”

On the whole, it has been another impressive season for the Spurs captain who is also dealing with the sale of Harry Kane.

Having formed the Premier League’s greatest-ever partnership with the England captain, a big part of Son’s game has been taken away from him this season.

Yet he has still been able to provide a return of 17 goals and nine assists.

But the last couple of months has seen the 31-year-old come off the boil in terms of his numbers and performances.

With a season of European football on the horizon, a summer of rest is perhaps needed for the Spurs man who will soon turn 32 years of age.
