Exclusive: Newcastle push ahead with first summer transfer after Eddie Howe delivers his verdict

Newcastle United are emerging as one of the busier Premier League teams ahead of the transfer window opening next month.

Talks are underway to land Fulham’s Tosin Adarabioyo and Bournemouth’s Lloyd Kelly – both available on free transfers, and Newcastle’s confidence is high in regards both deals.

The Magpies know what they want and that is at least one defender, up to two forwards and possibly a midfielder – but their decision to look for a goalkeeper has caught some by surprise, given they already have England goalkeeper Nick Pope and Martin Dubravka – who has filled in for a lot of this season when Pope was sidelined with a dislocated shoulder late last year.

Pope has now returned to fitness, but it appears he has a battle on his hands to make England’s Euro 2024 squad, indeed it is also becoming apparent that it won’t only be internationally that he has a battle for his future.

Eddie Howe wants Aaron Ramsdale at Newcastle

HITC can confirm that Newcastle have opened talks with Arsenal over a deal for Aaron Ramsdale – after Eddie Howe insisted they make their move.

Our sources say that some within Newcastle’s hierarchy were and are unsure about the value of adding another goalkeeper this summer, but Howe is a huge fan of Ramsdale and thinks the time is right to upgrade.

Howe knows Ramsdale well from their time together at Bournemouth when he signed the young keeper from Sheffield United in 2017 – before being sold back to Bramall Lane three-years later at a huge profit.

HITC is told that Howe has kept close tabs on Ramsdale and he believes the chance to sign him this summer is far too good an opportunity to pass up.

Ramsdale’s position at Arsenal has changed drastically this season after Mikel Arteta took the decision to bring in Spanish international David Raya from Brentford – initially on-loan.

It quickly became apparent that Raya was going to be first-choice and whilst willing to battle, Ramsdale has had to accept that his future lies away from the Emirates.

Sources have confirmed to HITC that Ramsdale is aware of Newcastle’s interest and has confirmed his desire to link-up with Howe again.
