'Will score a couple': Wayne Rooney predicts what will happen in Jurgen Klopp's last Liverpool game tomorrow

Liverpool’s last game of the 2023/24 season has nothing riding on it in terms of league position.

The Reds cannot move from their current third-placed position and will finish there for the second time under Jurgen Klopp.

Nevertheless, Sunday’s game against Wolves at Anfield is set to be one of the biggest occasions in years. One of the finest manager’s in Liverpool history will wave goodbye.

After nine glorious years, Klopp and his coaching staff will lead Liverpool out for the final time. It has been nothing but a pleasure.

Obviously, Reds fans will be hoping that the squad can put on a show for their outgoing manager. Three points and a few goals would be nice.

Wayne Rooney predicts Liverpool vs Wolves

We’ve been here before. Remarkably, Liverpool have faced Wolves at Anfield on the final day of the season three times since 2018/19.

On both of the previous two games, the Reds had been in with a shout of the Premier League title. They couldn’t secure it on either occasion.

This time, there will be no anxiety in that regard. Either Arsenal or Man City will take the crown, but Liverpool fans will care little. Sunday is all about celebrating a true Liverpool legend.

Wolves are no push overs mind you. Gary O’Neil has done a good job at Molineux and was even briefly tipped to be in the running to succeed Klopp.

And with that in mind, Wayne Rooney has predicted that O’Neil’s side will find the net more than once at Anfield. However, speaking on The Overlap, Rooney claimed that Liverpool will score more, and will see Jurgen off with one last win.

“I think Wolves will score a couple,” says the 38-year-old. “I think Liverpool will win.”

Team news for Liverpool vs Wolves

As much as feels a bit strange, there is still a game to play on Sunday. After drawing 3-3 with Aston Villa on Monday, Liverpool will want to get back to winning ways.

Klopp isn’t the only one to be leaving the club this summer. This week it has been confirmed that both Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara will join their boss in exiting.

But with both struggling with injury throughout the campaign, it would be a surprise to see either against Wolves.

It would also be a slight shock to see Diogo Jota line up against his former team. The 27-year-old is said to be ‘unlikely’ to make it.

Other than that trio, the rest of the Liverpool squad should be available. Let’s see who Klopp picks as the answer to trivia questions in the years to come; Jurgen Klopp’s final Reds line-up.
