‘Sensational’: Pundit says ‘confident’ Man City player has been a shining light for Pep Guardiola this season

Michael Brown has heaped praise on one Manchester City player for what he’s done for the team this season.

The Blues are just two wins away from winning the Premier League title and FA Cup after winning both trophies and the Champions League last season.

Ahead of Sunday’s final league match of the campaign against West Ham United, which would see City become the first side to win four titles in a row if they beat the Hammers, one pundit has picked out one particular player in Pep Guardiola’s squad for some significant praise.

Speaking in a recent edition of The Friday Football Social on BBC Radio 5 Live, Brown had this to say about Stefan Ortega and what he’s done for the team this season.

He said: “Do you know what? I talked about this on the night after the game when I came and joined the show about how good he has been this season.

“There have been many pluses, highlights of the season, goals, special moments, and I felt like he was one of the plus points for Manchester City.

“He has been able to develop, he has been able to get more games, not just in cup competitions, he has contributed in lots of ways.

“The lads really, really like him, in training his shot-stopping is sensational, and he is getting more confident. He wants more opportunities, he is pushing Ederson all the way.”

Ortega has proved himself to be vital for City this season

Across all competitions this season, Ortega has featured in 18 games and kept eight clean sheets in the process.

In his eight Premier League games, the German has faced 25 shots on target and made 19 saves, giving him a save percentage of 76%.

Three of those saves came during his cameo appearance in City’s recent 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur after he replaced the injured Ederson.

After that game, Guardiola said that if Ortega hadn’t made the save against Son Heung-min, Arsenal would be league champions.

Taking all of that on board, it’s easy to see why Brown thinks so highly of Ortega and what he’s offered City on and off the field this season.
