‘Not a guarantee’: TalkSPORT pundit thinks Mikel Arteta could replace ‘unbelievable’ Arsenal player this summer

TalkSPORT’s Tony Cascarino has suggested that Mikel Arteta could look at replacing one key Arsenal player this summer.

Despite another brilliant season for Mikel Arteta, the Spaniard is expected to oversee plenty of change this summer. It has already been confirmed that both Cedric Soares and Mohamed Elneny will head out the door upon their contracts expiring next month.

TBR Football reported earlier this month that Arsenal could revisit interest in Ajax’s Jorrel Hato as they bid to secure a new full-back.

Arsenal are also said to be keen to bolster their options in midfield and attack, with doubts surrounding Thomas Partey’s future at the club.

Now, Tony Cascarino has delivered his verdict on Partey, suggesting the midfielder’s future in north London is far from certain.

Cascarino says Partey could leave Arsenal

It’s been a frustrating campaign for Partey as he’s managed just 15 appearances in all competitions.

The Ghanian featured just four times in the Premier League before returning from injury in February.

Despite starting in Arsenal’s last three league games, there have been claims that Arteta has become ‘irritated’ with Partey’s injury record.

And Cascarino believes the Gunners could look at replacing the ‘unbelievable‘ 30-year-old.

Speaking on talkSPORT [7:28 am 19/05], he said: “There are a couple of areas (to strengthen). I mean, the forward area for a goalscorer, giving them another dimension. I think definitely a positive conversation.

“Interestingly, what they do with Thomas Partey because that’s not a guarantee. If he doesn’t stay on or be in the team next year, they will buy someone in there as well.”

Arsenal’s midfield targets

With Partey’s future up in the air, it’s no secret that Arteta is keen to bolster his options in the middle of the park.

It was claimed on Tuesday that Arsenal have already launched a bid to sign Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi.

The Spaniard is likely to take some convincing to leave the La Liga side though, with the Gunners hoping Arteta can persuade his compatriot.

Arsenal are also ready to move for Bruno Guimaraes should the Brazilian indicate he wants to leave St James’ Park.

However, Newcastle are confident that Guimaraes will snub any interest in favour of staying in the north East.
