Andre Onana says ‘there are very few defenders who could stop’ Man Utd ace, thinks he’s ‘one of the best in the world’

Andre Onana’s first season at Manchester United can be put down to a season of ups and downs.

He started off on the completely wrong foot, with some absolute clangers in the Champions League, which scared Manchester United fans into thinking it may have in fact been the wrong decision to shun club legend David de Gea.

However, particularly in the Premier League, the £47m has begun to prove his worth. He’s arguably been one of Manchester United’s best performers this season and has saved Erik ten Hag’s bacon on more than a few occasions.

But it hasn’t just been Onana that has been a shining light in a sea of bad performers around Old Trafford. Youth has definitely prevailed this season, with academy graduates shining. Alejandro Garnacho in particular has continued to impress.

Andre Onana lauds Alejandro Garnacho

After his breakout 22/23 season, fans were really excited to see what the dazzling Argentine could do with a full first-team squad campaign ahead of him – and he certainly hasn’t disappointed.

A regular for Ten Hag, Garnacho has shone when others haven’t and produced moments of magic like that of the ludicrous overhead kick against Everton – which should surely win goal of the season.

The Cameroonian goalkeeper recognises his teammate’s fantastic efforts in a recent interview with Stadium Astro. After piling praise on Kobbie Mainoo, Onana goes on to complement Garnacho.

He says pointing to the 19-year-old: “He (Garnacho) is a top player as well. Explain what I have here, which for me is one of the best in the world. Not that when he’s really on it and focused and working well and playing well, there are very few defenders who could stop him.”

Alejandro Garnacho is only going to get better

High praise from Onana, who already believes he’s one of the best in the world. At just 19, that’s a really exciting statement then.

Onana has played with some top players over his career but clearly sees something special in the Argentina international.

As the years pass by, Garnacho is just going to get better and better. If he can add end product to his game, it could seriously be over for the Premier League.

Manchester United must look to build the team around Garnacho, and a few other individuals. Then, the future should be a little brighter around Carrington.
