Celtic reportedly eyeing Premier League goalkeeper to replace Joe Hart

The latest name in a long line of Celtic goalkeeper targets has come to light as a potential replacement for Joe Hart.

There has been no shortage of speculation over who could succeed the former England international, who was met by a fantastic tifo display yesterday on his final game at Parkhead before retiring.

Hart is set to hang his gloves after the Scottish Cup final next weekend, leaving Brendan Rodgers with a sizeable void between the sticks before next campaign.

Southampton stopper Alex McCarthy, Trabzonspor’s Ugurcan Cakir, and Motherwell goalkeeper Liam Kelly have been mentioned over the last few weeks.

Whoever takes the mantle will have a job on their hands replicating the leadership qualities and understanding Hart has with his teammates, amplifying the need for Celtic to do their business early in the market.

Nevertheless, there is plenty of time to secure a number one, and an individual with Premier League experience is now reportedly on the Bhoys’ radar.

Celtic reportedly keeping tabs on Burnley stopper Arijanet Muric

According to journalist Alan Nixon via Patreon, Celtic are said to be keeping tabs on Burnley goalkeeper Arijanet Muric, who is likely to cost somewhere in the region of £10 million this summer.

Wolverhampton Wanderers are also keen on the Kosovo international. Muric has served as second-choice to James Trafford this campaign at Turf Moor, and there is an expectation Vincent Kompany will sell one of his stoppers as the club prepare for life in the Championship following Premier League relegation.

Per Transfermarkt, the 25-year-old has made 13 appearances across all competitions this season, keeping two clean sheets in the process.

FBRef note Muric has amassed an impressive save percentage rate of 81.9% from 72 shots on target faced in nine English top-flight matches, where he has conceded an average of 1.56 goals per 90 minutes.

Celtic may need to push the boat out this summer to land a top-class goalkeeper, and the Schlieren-born man would definitely fall into that category if Rodgers were to stump up the cash.

Muric would be an intriguing option for the Bhoys to consider; however, their financial capability will likely determine whether there is scope for a deal to be done.
