'I thought': Manager now delivers verdict on if Inter Miami deserved to win vs DC United

Tata Martino has now issued his honest verdict on if Inter Miami deserved to win last night against DC United.

The Herons left it late to secure a 1-0 win against their Eastern Conference rivals with Leonardo Campana scoring in stoppage time with his first few touches of the ball having been brought on from the bench.

With Lionel Messi unable to break down DC United’s defense and Luis Suarez having a night to forget, it was a frustrating fixture for Inter Miami despite coming away with a win and their unbeaten run intact.

And Martino has now delivered his opinion on if the Herons should have won the game.

Martino admits Inter Miami should have drawn 0-0 vs DC United

Speaking to the Miami Herald, Inter Miami manager Martino made the admission that the Herons should have drawn against DC United, with the Florida franchise not at the races at all last night.

Indeed, sometimes luck is needed for a result to go a team’s way, and Inter Miami certainly rode that last night at Chase Stadium, with these three points potentially crucial for what’s to come this summer.

Martino said when asked if Inter Miami were lucky to win against DC United: “The win is a byproduct of an individuality. [Campana] scored a goal that was more fitting of a different game.

“I thought a draw would have been fair because D.C. United did not create much and neither did we. I thought a 0-0 draw was how this game should have ended.”

Inter Miami need every ounce of luck they can get

In a league as unpredictable as MLS, luck is an asset every team in the division would crave to have, and Inter Miami need to use every ounce they can get of the stuff.

The upcoming Copa America means Inter Miami will be without a number of keys players for as long as six weeks, and the Herons have to ensure they collect as many points as possible before the competition starts.

As a result, Inter Miami can feel fine with how they went about their win on Saturday, with the Florida franchise in an excellent position in their quest to qualify for the MLS playoffs.
