'I decided': £47m Manchester United player says he was in talks to join Arsenal in 2015

It has just emerged, that a current Manchester United player was in talks to join Arsenal back in 2015.

Manchester United have endured a miserable season but ended the campaign on a high note, defeating Brighton and Hove Albion 2-0 at the Amex.

They missed out on qualification to any form of European competition but still have the chance to compete in the Europa League next term if they are to defeat rivals Manchester City in the FA Cup final.

Evidently, it’s been a transitional season for The Red Devils, with many new signings still bedding in and injuries taking their toll.

One summer arrival has just revealed that he was in talks to join Arsenal in 2015.

Andre Onana reveals he was in talks to join Arsenal in 2015

Speaking on The Overlap, Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana revealed he was in talks to join Arsenal and Chelsea in 2015 when he was looking to leave Barcelona.

Onana: “I was looking for options. I had Arsenal, I had Chelsea, I had other clubs.”

Neville: “You went to speak to Arsenal and Chelsea at the time?”

Onana: “Yes. My agent spoke with them at that time. But in the end, I decided to go to Ajax because for me it was important to be in the first team somewhere.

“And then from then on, we will see what is going to happen.”

Andre Onana opted for his development

Joining Arsenal or Chelsea would’ve been a highly rewarding move in his career but he opted to join Ajax where he knew he’d play more regularly.

That is an incredible testament to his character and hunger to develop as a player – which has certainly paid off in the long run.

Now at United, despite an up-and-down season, there are clear signs that he can become one of the best in the Premier League.

The £47m shot-stopper admitted he believes The Red Devils will be a lot better next term.
