Chris Sutton said club will be worried about 'remarkable' £8m striker leaving and Leeds are now interested

Leeds United are reportedly interested in a Championship attacker ahead of the summer and it comes after Chris Sutton said the club will be worried about losing the forward.

Leeds are likely to be after a new striker in the summer with Patrick Bamford’s injury issues still proving to be a difficulty for both club and player, while Joel Piroe’s Leeds form has been very up and down of late.

Piroe arguably produced his best display in a Leeds shirt on Thursday night but it comes after a difficult second half to the season in which The Dutchman lost some momentum after Bamford replaced him.

Mateo Joseph remains one for the future, but is closing in on a place in the side. Leeds may feel they need another options up top and USA star Josh Sargent has emerged as a possible target for The Whites.

Daniel Farke signed Sargent while at Norwich in the summer of 2021 for a fee of £8m and this season, he has enjoyed his best campaign while at Carrow Road – scoring 16 goals in 26 Championship appearances.

Interest in Sargent will come as no surprise to Norwich icon Sutton, who said The Canaries are worried about losing the striker ahead of the summer after failing to get promotion.

Sutton says Norwich worried about Josh Sargent amid Leeds links

Sargent is a top player at Championship level and while he struggled initially in the Premier League, he has shown that he has improved in recent seasons and could be a whole lot better second time round.

Reports state that not only Leeds are keen if Farke secures promotion, but Premier League trio Brighton, Brentford and Fulham would like to sign the Norwich star. It is unclear how much Norwich would want.

Sutton wrote about Sargent in his Pink’Un column in February: “Scoring goals is about confidence, and he is oozing it at the moment. Given how he started his career at Norwich, he looks a player transformed.

“After a tough season in the Premier League, he was probably wondering whether he had a future at the club. The position has shifted, Norwich will be worrying about keeping him heading into the summer.”

What Daniel Farke has said about Sargent in the past at Norwich

Farke only worked for a few months with the “remarkable” Sargent after signing him in 2021, with Farke sacked before Christmas that year as he struggled once again to get it right in the Premier League.

But the admiration of Sargent was clear, with Farke impressed by the American’s work rate in his first season in the Premier League. Here is what Farke said about the new Leeds target three years ago.

After a clash against Brighton, Farke praised his “outstanding” striker: “Outstanding performance. His workload was unbelievable both with and against the ball. He was able to keep the ball in the pocket.”
