Sheffield Wednesday should move for 'outstanding' ace after Forest update, he's perfect for Rohl - opinion

Sheffield Wednesday should look to the Premier League after one ‘outstanding’ player was made available.

Sheffield Wednesday‘s defence massively improved in the second half of the campaign, with veterans Michael Ihiekwe and Liam Palmer really stepping up to lead the backline.

While the Owls relied heavily on some of their more experienced players this season, they will surely be looking to add some youth this summer.

Di’Shon Bernard was snapped up on a free transfer after he was released by Manchester United and has since been ‘superb‘, showing that their lack of game-time definitely doesn’t have to determine their ability.

With the 23-year-old likely to play a key role next season, Wednesday should now look back to the Premier League to find his defensive partner.

Jonathan Panzo made available for transfer

Journalist Darren Witcoop has now reported that Nottingham Forest have made Jonathan Panzo available for transfer, with the defender eager for regular first-team football.

The centre-back was highly-rated when he was a youngster, having begun his senior career with Monaco.

Panzo was part of the England U17s squad that won the 2017 World Cup and reached the final of the 2017 Euros, as well as being named in the 2017 Euros Team of the Tournament.

The 23-year-old reunited with Steve Cooper at Nottingham Forest five years later but struggled for game-time.

He has since been sent out on loan to Coventry, Cardiff and Standard Liege, with his spell with the former particularly impressing.

Coventry boss Mark Robins labelled Panzo ‘outstanding’ as he helped them to reach the Championship play-offs.

Without Cooper, it appears Panzo really has no chance at forcing his way into the Nottingham Forest team and now he is likely to return to the second division in search of more minutes.

The defender seems like a sensible addition

With a year left on his contract, the 23-year-old could be available on the cheap as Forest look to balance the books.

There is no doubt that there will be high interest in Panzo, with the likes of Sunderland and Norwichlinked with him in January.

With Wednesday eager to bolster their ranks and bring in more competition, whilst also preparing for the future, Panzo could be an excellent addition to Rohl’s team.

The Owls will be looking to push for a place in the top half of the table next term, so looking to the Premier League during the transfer window can only be beneficial.
