‘I think it’s a Texas-Oregon battle’: Latest on 5-star WR Dakorien Moore after LSU decommitment

Dakorien Moore

Texas has been a mainstay in the recruitment of Duncanville (Texas) Five-Star Plus+ wide receiver Dakorien Moore for multiple years now. The Longhorns were largely considered the favorite in his recruitment when he committed to LSU in a surprise decision last fall.

They’ve been relentless in their pursuit of him, bringing him to campus multiple times even as he was committed to the Tigers.

Over the weekend, he backed off that commitment to LSU and announce he would be taking official visits to Texas, Oregon and Ohio State this summer. And coming off that decision, the Longhorns are trending heavily in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM).

InsideTexas.com recruiting insider Justin Wells hasn’t yet put in his own pick, but he does believe the Longhorns are at the top right now with one other program/

“Right now, I think it’s a Texas-Oregon battle,” he said on Sunday during On3’s Inside Scoop recruiting show. “He’s going to give Ohio State a chance, he’ll take that official [visit] in a couple of weeks to Columbus. But I feel like this is going to come down to Texas and Oregon, ultimately. And you have to feel good if you’re Texas. Two months ago, when we started mentioning this and writing about this at InsideTexas, it was with the caveat that he was going to end up in Austin. And there’s just so many things — so many factors and fact patterns — that point toward Austin. That’s why I think Texas is in a great spot.”

Moore has a bevy of connections to the Longhorns program, including 2023 five-star signee Colin Simmons, who Wells said is a major part of Texas’ recruiting efforts to land Moore.

“… This has Texas written all over it. He’s been a big ‘Horns fan for the longest time, and he’s been in Austin a ton of times. He has family in Austin, he has a pipeline from Duncanville to Austin. He’s got a [former high school teammate] and EDGE player in Colin Simmons who is recruiting maybe as hard as anybody.”

Dakorien Moore Recruiting Profile

Moore is the No. 3 overall prospect in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 1 wide receiver and No. 1 player in Texas.

On3’s Scouting and Rankings Team writes this about him as a prospect:

“Skilled receiver with a well-rounded skill set who stars for one of the tip high school programs in the state of Texas. Measured at around 5-foot-10.5, 175 pounds prior to his junior season. Touts top speed on the track, running a wind-aided 10.63 mark in the 100 meters as a sophomore. Shows a refined and well-rounded skill set as a receiver both on Friday nights and in the camp setting. Has the long speed to separate deep and take the top off of defenses. Shifty after the catch and uses his field vision to find open space, sometimes cutting back across the field. Looks to have plus ball skills, with the ability to make acrobatic catches. Shows reliable, strong hands at the catch point in the camp setting. Turned in a good sophomore season for the Texas state champions, catching 44 passes for 767 yards and seven touchdowns.”
