Edu on red alert as agent of £56m Arsenal striker target drops hint over summer transfer

Arsenal have been linked with RB Leipzig attacker Benjamin Sesko, as Mikel Arteta aims to strengthen his attacking options.

Sesko has been in outstanding form recently, scoring seven in his last seven matches, and the 20-year-old notched up 18 goals in 42 games across all competitions.

Arsenal are keen on a striker, with Eddie Nketiah looking likely to depart, but the recent form of Kai Havertz means that Arteta may now sign a younger forward he can ease in, rather than an experienced attacker such as Ivan Toney.

Edu Gaspar has been keeping an eye on Sesko, and he will now be very wary of recent comments made by his agent, which suggests that the Slovenian could end up moving to the Premier League this summer.

Speaking to Sportklub, Sesko’s agent Elvis Basanovic claimed that there is interest from several top clubs in the striker, whilst Leipzig are also keen to tie him down to a new contract.

“I can say that there is interest in Benjamin, both from the Premier League and from Italy. But out of respect, I can’t talk about the names of the clubs,” Basanovic stated.

“We are talking about top clubs. We have to realise that Benjamin is currently at a top club. There are very few people who realise how big a club Leipzig is. There are certainly eventful weeks ahead of us.

“It is my duty to listen to offers that come up. We need to work on giving Benjamin more opportunities at the end of the season. But that’s his decision.

Arsenal will need to convince Benjamin Sesko Emirates move is best for his development

Arsenal will have a job on their hands convincing Sesko that the Emirates is the best place for his development. Leipzig have an excellent track record when it comes to developing young players, and if Sesko would be behind Havertz in the pecking order initially, Arteta and Edu will have to convince him that he could eventually become a starter.

“We will suggest what is best for his long-term development. Leipzig is trying extremely hard to keep Benjamin,” his agent added.

“They have their arguments on the side of development, they are also a big club with excellent conditions. They have strong cards. Healthy development takes precedence over the economic side.”

Havertz’s improvement as a striker should serve as an example to Sesko, that forwards of his profile – quick, physical and technically strong, can thrive under Arteta, and if he is open to a move, his £56m release clause could prove to be excellent value.
