'Expected to leave': Fabrizio Romano now says player who Eddie Howe wants at Newcastle will be sold

Fabrizio Romano has provided another transfer update that should be very interesting to Newcastle United fans.

He recently brought news that Newcastle United transfer target Benjamin Sesko has no interest in moving to Saudi Arabia, and now Fabrizio Romano has shared details on another player who Eddie Howe is keen to sign.

Goalkeeper is going to be a problem position for Newcastle very soon, with Loris Karius due to depart once his contract expires. He could also be followed out the door by Martin Dubravka, with the 35-year-old rumoured to be leaving Newcastle United this summer.

That is going to force the club to sign a new stopper, and it could be someone who could challenge Nick Pope for a place in the starting XI.

Newcastle United interested in Giorgi Mamardashvili

Newcastle United are being linked with signing Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, and the latest update from Fabrizio Romano suggests that the Magpies might have a chance to do a deal.

He has stated on X (formerly known as Twitter) that the La Liga club have already signed a replacement in Stole Dimitrievski, with Mamardashvili now ‘expected’ to leave Valencia.

Romano wrote: “Stole Dimitrievski to Valencia, here we go! The Macedonian GK has signed four year deal, valid until June 2028. Mamardashvili, expected to leave with several clubs interested including Newcastle and Atlético Madrid.”

The journalist has thrown Newcastle’s hat in the ring as a possible suitor, and the Times have also reported that Eddie Howe is a big fan of the 23-year-old.

Aaron Ramsdale is also on Newcastle’s radar

Mamardashvili is not the only goalkeeper that Newcastle United are looking at, with plenty of rumours suggesting that Aaron Ramsdale could be the one to move to St James’ Park.

The 26-year-old is expected to be on the move after losing his place in the starting XI at Arsenal, while it has been claimed that Newcastle are willing to pay £15million to sign him when the transfer window opens.

Whether or not that would be enough to convince Arsenal to sell remains to be seen, but it appears to be a straight shootout between Ramsdale and Mamardashvili for who Newcastle sign.

The latter has a lot more potential and is younger, while the former has Premier League experience and has worked with Eddie Howe before. There are pros and cons for each player, and it will be fascinating to see who the Magpies prioritise.
