The 2024 Pac-12 Baseball Tournament got underway Tuesday as Stanford and Arizona State matched up in the opening game of Pool A. The Cardinal won, 8-7, over the Sun Devils.
After three scoreless innings, it was the top of the 4th where Stanford struck first and often. The Cardinal took an 8-0 lead after four innings. But, the Sun Devils showed some fight, climbing back to an 8-4 ball game by the end of the 6th inning. That score held until the bottom of the 9th inning, when Arizona State managed to walk the bases full and plate a trio of runs to make it a one-run game before a foul out to Stanford catcher Malcolm Moore ended the game.
USC took on Utah in Game 2 of the day, kicking off play in Pool C. The Utes stretched their offensive legs in the 3rd and 4th innings, building a 4-1 lead. But USC’s offense had answers, clawing runs back and pushing the game to a 6-4 lead for the Utes by the bottom of the 8th inning. That’s when USC came out with a clutch inning to plate a trio of runs, including the go ahead run via a double left field.

Cal made quick work of Washington in the nightcap, taking a while to get the offense going before inching out to a 12-0 lead by the end of the 6th inning. And despite the Huskies loading the bases in the top of the 7th inning, poised to push a few runs across and avoid a run-rule loss, Cal shut down the threat to secure a 12-0 win.

Following pool play, the survivors will duke it out in the semifinals Friday and then the championship game on Saturday evening. The Pac-12 website notes that, ideally, the highest seeded team will face the lowest seeded team in one semifinal, with the other two closer-seeded squads facing each other.
However, since two teams from the same pool cannot meet in the semifinal round, they’d be split up even if they were the highest and lowest seed. With all of that in mind, here’s what that schedule looks like for the final rounds:
