Report: Micah Parsons returning to Cowboys facilities for minicamp, media responsibilities

Micah Parsonsis not currently around the Dallas Cowboys facility as OTAs are occurring. There was some hope he would make an appearance despite working on a contract extension with the organization. However, Parsons has recently been at a local boxing gym, preparing his body for the upcoming 2024 season.

To this point, there is nothing to worry about Parsons skipping out on games, similar to Ezekiel Elliott during his contract negotiation. Especially since according to Jane Slater, Parsons will be back around the Cowboys facilities next Tuesday. Not just for minicamp but also some “media responsibilities” within the franchise and from a national perspective.

“Just texted with Cowboys DE Micah Parsons. Parsons was not at OTA’s today in Frisco but tells me he will be back for in-house and national media responsibilities next week Tuesday, the 28th, and minicamp,” Slater said via X.

Later, in a spot on NFL Network, Slater explained exactly what Parsons would be doing with those media responsibilities, along with his minicamp plans.

“You see flashy graphics before NBC games and ESPN,” Slater said. “So, he has to be there for that. He also will be reporting for minicamp. Now, he didn’t give me any reason as to why he isn’t there.”

Parsons still has at least two more seasons with the Cowboys, entering his fourth season of his rookie contract. Dallas did pick up his fifth-year option through the 2025 season to earn around $21 million. But after dominating the NFL since stepping onto a field as a rookie, there might not be a better time to get a contract extension done.

Wide receiver CeeDee Lamb is in a similar position, not reporting for OTAs while hoping to get a fresh deal done. Arguably the team’s two most important players outside of quarterback Dak Prescott, ending the respective holdouts — for non-media responsibility purposes — will be key to get the ball rolling for the 2024 season.

Parsons has enjoyed his time away from the team. He has been on a few international trips alongside Houston Texans quarterback CJ Stroud, visiting China and Japan. Sumo wrestlers even got their chance against the All-Pro edge rusher, providing a lot of laughs back home.

Winning a Super Bowl is always at the top of Parsons’ mind, though. Multiple early exits have been the story of his young career and while getting his contract is a top priority, a move back to football will quickly occur when it’s finished.
