Jennie Baranczyk on adding Raegan Beers: ‘She fits so well from a chemistry standpoint’

Jennie Baranczyk believes transfer post player Raegan Beers will fit in seamlessly with the rest of the players on the Oklahoma roster. She was one of eight players from Oregon State to enter the transfer portal this offseason after a run to the Elite Eight.

Beers led the country with a 66.4% field goal percentage and averaged a double-double this past season with 17.5 points and 10.6 rebounds per game. Standing, 6-foot-4, she’ll immediately make an impact inside for the Sooners, who lacked a true post presence this past season.

More than anything, however, Baranczyk is excited about the chemistry fit that Beers represents for the OU roster.

“You’re gonna love Raegan as a person,” the coach said. “She’s just incredible. To be able to watch our women interact with her when she came on a visit, that was really neat. Raegan wasn’t leaving necessarily for a better opportunity, but obviously they had some different circumstances at Oregon State. So she made that decision to leave, but she also knew the kind of chemistry and culture that she was looking for.

“That’s what’s really neat. We were one of those programs that she wanted to talk to because of that. So the women on our team knew that she’s a need for us obviously with her interior play, but even more, she fits so well from a chemistry standpoint.”

Oklahoma is coming off of its second straight Big 12 regular season title and third straight NCAA Tournament appearance under Baranczyk. The Sooners return all five starters from this past season after advancing to the second round of March Madness.

Oklahoma will also have Liz Scott back in the fold after she missed the 2023-24 season with an injury.

The addition of Beers, a former top 10 recruit coming out of high school, only makes expectations higher for the upcoming season. The Sooners have yet to advance past the second round of the NCAA Tournament since 2013, but with its returning production stands a solid chance in 2024-25.

Throw in Raegan Beers to the mix and Baranczyk believes Oklahoma fans will have plenty to cheer about.

“She works her tail off but also has fun with what she’s doing,” she said. “She wants to be part of this community. So I’m excited for the people of Norman to be able to get to experience Raegan Beers too because she will give so much to this community.”
