NFL Preseason Week 1 Weekend Preview: Games, Time Start, Channel

Vikings Respond to ESPN's NFC North Champions FB Post with Epic Tweet

There are four big NFL preseason games going on this weekend, and here is everything you need to know.

NFL Preseason Weekend Preview

On Friday, two games will be held. First, the Atlanta Falcons will visit the New York Jets at 7:30 p.m. EST. The Jets’ quarterbacks — Josh McCown, Teddy Bridgewater and rookie Sam Darnold, the team’s No. 3 overall draft pick this year out of USC — will likely be the most closely watched players. Darnold helped lead the Trojans to a Rose Bowl title in 2017.

Then, the Detroit Lions will visit the Oakland Raiders at 10:30 p.m. EST. The Lions have a brand new head coach, former New England Patriots defensive coordinator Matt Patricia, so it will be interesting to see how he fares as Detroit’s leader. On the Raiders’ side, Jon Gruden is back as the team’s head coach after serving as an ESPN and Monday Night Football analyst. Gruden last worked as Oakland’s head coach in 2001. The Raiders are also missing defensive end Khalil Mack, who was held out of training camp.

On Saturday, the Minnesota Vikings will first visit the Denver Broncos at 9 p.m. EST. This game will also air on NFL Network. This will mark quarterback Kirk Cousins‘ first game as a Viking, while his Broncos counterpart Case Keenum will be playing against his old team, whom he helped lead to the NFC Championship last season.
