Tokyo stocks were lower in early trading Monday on a fall in global stocks late last week due to concerns over Turkey's economy and on the yen's rise against the dollar.

In the first 15 minutes of trading, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average fell 219.64 points, or 0.99 percent, from Friday to 22,078.44. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 19.25 points, or 1.12 percent, at 1,700.91.

Decliners were led by bank, nonferrous metal and miscellaneous product issues.
