Ex-Chiefs running back Hunt 'embarrassed' by actions in video

The Kansas City Chiefs released Kareem Hunt after a video surfaced of him shoving and kicking a woman

Los Angeles (AFP) - Running back Kareem Hunt, cut by the Kansas City Chiefs after video showed him shoving and kicking a woman in February, said Sunday he's "embarrassed" by his behavior and the NFL club did the right thing.

Speaking to ESPN, Hunt said he was sorry for the incident in Cleveland, which was reported at the time but did not result in any criminal charges or NFL punishment for the player.

"Honestly, I just want to let the world know how sorry I am for my actions," Hunt said in an interview on the US sports network. "It's been a tough time for me. I'm extremely embarrassed because of that video.

"I'm definitely not that type of person. My mother raised me right. ... I know right from wrong."

Celebrity news website TMZ published the video on Friday. It showed Hunt exchanging words with a woman in the hallway of a Cleveland hotel before shoving her. She responded by taking a swipe at his face. After they were separated, Hunt charged back, running into a man who knocks over the woman. While she was trying to rise, Hunt kicked her.

The Chiefs said in a statement Friday they would  release Hunt because the second-year player had "not been truthful" with the team about the incident.

"The Chiefs are right. I didn't tell them everything," Hunt said. "I don't blame them for anything. My actions caused this."

Prior to the Chiefs announcement, Hunt was placed on the commissioner's exempt list, which makes him ineligible to play or practice for any team that might pick him up off waivers until the league completes an investigation of the matter.
