Raiders To Move To San Francisco In 2019 To Play At MLB Giants’ Oracle Park

Derek Carr Struggles With Passing in Raiders' 21-13 Loss to Chiefs

It’s been an eventful night for Oakland Raiders owner Mark Davis. Fans of the team knew they were leaving Oakland but not for San Francisco.

Oakland Raiders Moving To San Fran

During the 2019 season, the Raiders will play in San Francisco at Oracle Park, home of the San Francisco Giants. Here’s where things get tricky.

The Raiders will be the only NFL team playing in the city despite the San Francisco 49ers existing. They play in Santa Clara, California. The Raiders will have also played home games in three different baseball stadiums. That’s more stadiums than the Boston Red Sox, established 59 years earlier, have played home games in. With their lack of recent success, maybe the Raiders chose the wrong sport. The NFL and the MLB still have to approve this deal. It’s expected to get done but there’s some concern because “San Francisco” is attached to the 49ers‘ official name, licensing and team marks despite playing 44 miles south of the city. The Raiders will still move out to Las Vegas for the 2020 season.

On Sunday night, Davis got his stadium and the team he wanted to win ultimately hoisted the Lombardi trophy. There’s a slight connection between the two teams after Patriots owner Bob Kraft  said the Raiders’ move to Vegas would be “good for the NFL.”  The Pats’ sixth Super Bowl win also meant that the Los Angeles Rams lost, leaving the Raiders as the only LA team to win a Super Bowl. Davis reportedly sent out texts after the game reminding reporters of the fact.
