Anaheim (United States) (AFP) - Two-time US Olympians Madison Chock and Evan Bates captured the ice dance crown Sunday at the Four Continents Figure Skating Championship by winning the free dance title.

Chock and Bates, twice on World Championships podiums and four times on Four Continents podiums without a victory in either, achieved their breakthrough after a poor showing in the final performance by reigning US champions Madison Hubbell and Zachary Donohue.

Chock and Bates won the free dance with 126.25 points to finish with a total of 207.42 points, combining their runner-up finish in the rhythm dance.

Reigning Canadian champions Kaitlyn Weaver and Andrew Poje, three-time world podium finishers and two-time Four Continents champions, took second overall on 203.93 after finishing third in the free dance with 123.37. They were also third in the rhythm dance.

Canada's Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier were second in the free dance with 124.40 to reach the podium with a 202.45 total.

Hubbell and Donohue, last year's world runners-up and the 2014 Four Continents champions, won the rhythm dance but settled for fourth in the free dance on 119.71 and fourth overall on 201.66.
