The Jacksonville Jaguars are expected to sign former Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles after the quarterback became involved in rumors surrounding his previous season. The 30-year-old man who brought the Philadelphia Eagles their first national championship will not be franchise-tagged this offseason. Instead, the team will place all their hopes in the hands of oft-injured quarterback Carson Wentz and leave Foles to fend for himself as an unrestricted free agent.

Nick Foles May Land With Jags

Over his last five playoff games, Foles threw for 1438 yards and nine touchdowns. That span also includes two fourth-quarter comebacks and one Lombardi trophy hoisted at the end of the season. While Foles will remain a legend in Philly for the rest of his life, the fact that the Eagles chose to move on and not him preserves his image. NBC Sports Philadelphia took to Twitter, writing, “For everything you’ve done for the Eagles and for the city of Philadelphia… Thank you, Nick Foles. 💚”

Wentz will hope to play in his first full season since his rookie year. Though he showed flashes of greatness since his ACL tear, the North Dakota State product had an up-and-down 2018 and injury issues continued to plague him. On top of that, some teammates questioned his leadership skills and his integrity in a bombshell Philly Voice report.

In Jacksonville, Foles will find a slumping squad in desperate need of a turnaround. Just a year removed from a conference finals berth, the Jags stumbled to a 5-11 last-place finish. If Foles joins the team, it’s almost guaranteed that they’ll get rid of quarterback Blake Bortles.

It’s important to note that on top of being paired with top players Leonard Fournette and Marqise Lee, Foles will once again be reunited with John DeFilippo. DeFilippo serves as the teams offensive coordinator and was Philly’s quarterback coach during their 2017 title run. Jacksonville can only hope to repeat that success.
