Finally! No Pants Day is here for its Swedish edition, the only day in the year when you can show off your underwear and not be a creep. People around the world know it by different names: "No Trousers on the Tube Ride", "No Pants Subway Ride", but No Pants Day is definitely my favorite.
@bettylaurazqWhile most of you just think of it as a regular Friday, a handful of people from London to New York City are actually excited about the first Friday of May. This celebration seems to be particularly popular in Mexico City, where about 4 million people use the Metro each day.
@thebikeguruEven though No Pants Day is done in January in all these countries, and even though Stockholm used to have its No Pants Day then as well, it has since moved to May, when the weather seems way, way, more appropriate to off some layers.
Nobody "needed" a No Pants day. It simply happened. One day, people met up at some point in a city and decided to play a fun, harmless prank on the rest of subway riders. Simply: off with your trousers, pants, or whatever it is you cover your underpants with.
@bettylaurazqThe point of it all is to take your pants off when you ride the subway, but doing it nonchalantly is key here. Nothing kills a joke like laughing halfway through it, so if you think you're one of the chosen people to do it, make sure you are serious about it.
However, if you choose to keep your pants on, bear in mind that this is No Pants Day, so try to not stare. Just have fun with it, keep calm and carry on. If, on the other hand, you're really not into seeing other people in their underwear, perhaps consider using a cab to get to places. Just for this one day.
