Kristaps Porzingis hasn’t logged a minute of NBA basketball in nearly 17 months. However, the Dallas Mavericks plan to fill the ACL–tear victim’s pockets to the brim, as sources continue to report Dallas’s intentions to offer him a max contract once free agency begins June 30.

Although Porzingis possesses the capability to field offers from other teams as a restricted free agent, all signs point to a continued tenure in Dallas for the uniquely talented Latvian product.

A $158 million–dollar, five-year figure continues to resurface within the NBA community as the likely terms rounding out a future Porzingis contract. Although Porzingis portrayed MVP potential, averaging 22.7 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 2.4 blocks per game before blowing out his knee, the former New York Knicks star unfortunately carries some eye–brow-raising baggage alongside his talent, as his durability remains questionable following the injury. Looking to silence his critics and return to the hardwood, Porzingis continues to work out with the Mavericks this offseason, rehabbing his injury and staying on course to return for the season’s opener. However, Porzingis’s tall and skinny build, alongside his injury history, still unavoidably warrants health concerns, which pushed the the Knicks to pull the trigger and trade their best player.

Porzingis will turn just 24 this August, as the Mavericks plan to pair him with recently awarded Rookie of the Year, Luka Doncic. Doncic and Porzingis highlight Dallas’s talent, as they look to carry the torch following NBA legend Dirk Nowitzki‘s retirement.

Aside from his continued work within the Dallas gym, Porzingis illustrated his commitment to return stronger than ever with some recent Instagram content that featured the forward working out and building up muscle. Porzingis also published another post essentially announcing his readiness to return to the court as the caption simply read, “I’m ready to goo already!!!”

If the reports regarding Porzingis’s contract situation, as well as his health fold out accordingly, “the unicorn” could return to his slam-dunking, three–point making, and shot-stuffing ways with a far heavier wallet once the NBA season starts this October.
