Tokyo stocks rose Tuesday with the benchmark Nikkei closing at a fresh 13-month high, as solid earnings from the construction sector helped lift investor sentiment.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended up 188.17 points, or 0.81 percent, from Monday at 23,520.01. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange finished 5.64 points, or 0.33 percent, higher at 1,709.67.
