After confirming that the halftime show at this year’s Super Bowl will be headlined by none other than Jennifer Lopez and Shakira, Fox Sports has revealed another Latin-flavored surprise for the show, and this one is definitely unexpected.
The final game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers will be preceded by a video showing Los Tigres del Norte, a beloved Mexican band famous for their Norteño classics, who also performed last year at Coachella. The video will be part of the NFL’s celebration of one hundred campaigns.
The idea is that Fox Sports wants to thank Latino football fans for their passion and support over the years, and that’s why Los Tigres have been offered to participate, with their video playing right before Demi Lovato sings the national anthem.
Los Tigres del Norte are one of the most popular and successful Mexican bands of all time. Their name is practically synonymous with the Norteño genre, and they are loved by fans not just from Mexico and the Mexican-American community in the US, but also by other Latino communities. The band was founded in 1968 in San José, California, and over the course of over 50 years, they have come to dominate the genre.
