Trump’s Defense Team Says Obama Should Have Been Impeached During Senate Trial

NEW YORK - SEPTEMBER 20: Former U.S. President Barack Obama answers questions at the Gates Foundation Inaugural Goalkeepers event on September 20, 2017 in New York City.

President Donald Trump‘s defense team at his Senate impeachment trial spent Monday attacking former President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden, even suggesting that the former president should have been impeached for his actions in office.

The Trump team went after Obama and Biden, arguing that the Democratic pair should be on the stand instead of Trump. The defense team declared that Obama and Biden should be probed for corruption and abuse of power.

Trump attorneys Pam Bondi and Eric Herschmann offered their reasoning in their closing arguments after Alan Dershowitz, a Harvard Law School professor and high-profile defense lawyer, said he found nothing impeachable about the allegations former National Security Advisor John Bolton made against Trump in his new book.

“We would prefer not to be discussing this, but the House managers have placed this squarely at issue, so we must address it,” Bondi said.

The Trump’s team compared actions by Trump to similar ones by Obama. These included Obama’s alleged abuse of power in his relationship Russia.
