An Elizabeth man was arrested Friday after he fatally stabbed another man during a heated argument in a parked car, authorities said Sunday.

Javier Ramirez-Jimenez, 48, was charged with reckless manslaughter after he stabbed 67-year-old Carlos Ariza, acting Union County Prosecutor Lyndsay V. Ruotolo said.

Elizabeth police found Ariza with a stab wound to his torso when they responded to the 500 block of Elizabeth Avenue around 11:45 p.m. Friday, Ruotolo said.

Ariza was taken to University Hospital in Newark, where he died hours later.

Ramirez-Jimenez is being held in the Union County jail pending his first appearance in court.

The Union County Homicide Task Force, Union County Sheriff’s Office and Elizabeth Police Department are investigating.

Authorities ask anyone with information to contact Sgt. Danika Ramos at 908-451-7739 or Det. Brandon Lorenz at 908-337-3230.
