Entrance to national parks across the US is now free.
The National Park Service in the US announced that entrance fees will be waived temporarily in response to the coronavirus and calls to self-quarantine.
"I've directed the National Park Service to waive entrance fees at parks that remain open. This small step makes it a little easier for the American public to enjoy the outdoors in our incredible National Parks," said Secretary of the Interior David Bernhardt.
"Our vast public lands that are overseen by the Department offer special outdoor experiences to recreate, embrace nature and implement some social distancing." Secretary Bernhardt continued.
But, if Paris is anything to go by, these good intentions could backfire. The day after the government implored the French public to stay home and self-quarantine last weekend, parks across the city were full of families, seniors and couples soaking in the sun.
Not long after, the city closed all the parks.
If, like Paris, people share the same idea to come up for air in public parks, crowding may make social distancing impossible.
