7. HealthyTOKYO Cafe & Shop - Haneda Airport, Harajuku

With locations at Haneda Airport and in Harajuku, it is a great, easy option to go when looking for something healthy and hearty. 8. Komaki Shokudo - Akihabara

Komaki Shokudoin Akihabara offers traditional Buddhist cuisine-inspired Japanese fare that is all vegan. The ingredients and dishes change every day according to the season and the ingredients in stock.

For delicious and creative vegan ramen, there's no better option than Noodle Stand Tokyo. Located in Harajuku, just past Takeshita Street, this small ramen shop offers one vegan option regularly and two vegan options every Friday. 13. SEKAI CAFE - Asakusa, Tokyo Skytree

SEKAI CAFEis a restaurant with two locations in Tokyo offering vegan options. 14. PreMarche Gelateria - Nakameguro

For something sweet and cool, nothing beats the creamy, vegan-friendly gelato at PreMarche Gelateria. Located in the stylish Nakameguro area, this is the ideal place for indulging in a classic frozen dessert. The high-quality gelato here has won international awards and is friendly for those with allergies or avoiding certain ingredients.

Of the forty-total flavors, around 18 are vegan, and several other flavors are non-dairy and sweetened with honey. Shown above is a black-sesame flavored gelato with a sake-based gelato scoop (front-center cup), matcha with coconut (left-back cup), and matcha with rice milk flavors (cone). All are vegan, and gluten-free options are available, too.

15. Wired Bonbon - Shinjuku

The decadent matcha-flavored parfaits, Japanese flavor-infused crepes, and other desserts at Wired Bonbonin Shinjuku will please all. With an enticing, all-vegan sweets menu, it can be hard to decide what to order––be sure to bring along a friend if you like to sample different desserts.

Wired Bonbon is located on the sixth floor of Shinjuku LUMINE (building 1). Go out the south exit from JR Shinjuku Station or exit 8 from Shinjuku Nishiguchi Station (Toei Subway) to get there smoothly.

16. Kippy's Coco Cream - Sendagaya

For vegan ice cream near the Harajuku area, head to Kippy's Coco Cream. Offering non-dairy, coconut-based ice cream, a portion of these treats are suitable for vegan diners, too. Each flavor is made with five whole ingredients or less, offering a high-quality, nutrition-filled dessert that will satisfy your cravings for something sweet. All the ingredients are certified as organic in the United States.

Some ice cream is sweetened with raw honey, and others with dates. Two vegan date flavors in vanilla and coffee are pictured above. Diners can choose from a variety of toppings as well.

On-the-Go: Bento and Convenience Store Options

17. Vegan Bento at Tokyo and Shinjuku Stations

A certified vegan bento lunchis sold within and near major stations in Tokyo. Coming with soy meat protein, rice, and vegetables, this is a good option to eat on the Shinkansen or express train for those wanting to experience the full train experience in Japan.

The bento box is sold inside of Tokyo Station at the Ekibenya Matsuri, in between the JR train platforms, and outside the Shinkansen gate at Ekibenyaat multiple locations on the Shinkansen platforms (please confirm with an employee). It is available as well inside of Shinjuku Station, from Ekibenya Itadaki.

18. Vegan Hamburger Rice Bowl from Tokyo Family Mart

Family Marts convenience stores in Tokyocurrently sell one certified vegan option: a hamburger patty rice bowl with vegetables. Covered in a classic Japanese demi-glace sauce, the soy meat patty is very savory and has a great texture. Heatable in the microwave, it is a rich, filling option that will keep diners (vegan or not) satisfied.

Look for it in the refrigerated section of Family Marts with the other pre-made meals––the label is in Japanese, but the vegan option will have a green sealon it from the Vegetarian Society of Japan.

Indulge in the Best Vegan Eats in Tokyo

The restaurants, cafes, and options listed above are a fraction of the vegan food found in Tokyo. There are a large number of small vegan and vegetarian restaurants scattered throughout the city, as well as chains with plant-based choices, such as vegan-friendly ramen on the menu at Kyushu Janagara, for a convenient, satisfying meal.
