Apple's online-only 2020 Worldwide Developers Conference gets opening date

Apple has announced that all of the proceedings of its 2020 Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) will take place exclusively online. The annual technology showcase, which this year will be free of charge, will open on June 22.

Developers from all over the world will be able to attend conferences given by teams from Apple, directly on the WWDC website and via the Apple developer app.

As it has done every year for the last three decades, the  WWDC will provide Apple with a venue for the presentation of forthcoming innovations in its different operating systems (iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS and tvOS). Developers will have a chance to discover how to take advantage of these new features, and the general public will get an idea of what is in store for this fall, when they finally install these updates on their iPhones, iPads, Mac computers, Apple Watches and Apple TVs.

This year Apple is also organizing the Swift Student Challenge, a coding contest for students who are invited to submit projects written in the Swift programming language. Applications to take part in the competition can be submitted up until May 18.
