Number of the day: $50/hour is Uber's average trip rate for new by-the-hour service

Each day, ETX Studio is exploring a figure that's making the day's headlines; Today, we're taking a look at Uber's new service which lets riders request trips by-the-hour with the cost averaging out at about $50 per hour.

After a pilot program proved successful in cities within Australia, Africa, Europe and the Middle East, Uber announced on Friday that select US cities will be gaining access to an Hourly ride option.

This feature will simplify how riders and drivers make multi-trip journeys together and allow people not to have "to re-request a trip at each location you visit." Requests can be made just like one would for a shorter trip, however: "Once requested, you'll be matched with a driver who has a more spacious and newer vehicle make / model of cars that are eligible for Uber Comfort."

Generally, the fare per hour is $50, though Uber qualifies that mileage overage will vary by city.

Now, when running errands or making various other small trips that will add up to an hour or more of travel, users don't need to make additional requests -- they can simply add new locations while on their trip.

This Hourly ride option is rolling out  to users in Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, DC, Houston, Miami, Orlando, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Seattle, Tacoma and Tampa Bay and will be available to all people in these locations by June 2.
