Police Use Tear Gas To Clear Peaceful Protestors From Lafayette Square For Trump Photo Op At St. John's Church

George Floyd protestors file a lawsuit against Trump and other officials after police used tear gas and rubber bullets during a peaceful demonstration on Lafayette Square on Monday.

The protesters and the Washington, D.C., chapter of Black Lives Matter, filed the lawsuit against Trump, Attorney General William Barr, Defense Secretary Mark Esper and other of law enforcement officials for “injunctive relief and damages; violation of First Amendment rights, Fourth Amendment rights, and conspiracy to violate civil rights.)”

On Monday, as Trump gave his Rose Garden Speech, threatening to deploy military troops in the city, police forcefully cleared out Lafayette Square park off of the hundreds of demonstrators. According to multiple reporters at the scene, the demonstration was peaceful and took place before the curfew. Police used rubber bullets, tear gas and flash bang shells to clear out the way for Trump’s photo-op visit at St. John’s church.
