Democrats Call In To Impeach Attorney General William Bar For Politicizing Justice Department

WASHINGTON, DC - MAY 1: U.S. Attorney General William Barr testifies before the Senate Judiciary Committee May 1, 2019 in Washington, DC.

Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee are calling in for Attorney General William Barr to be impeached, alleging that he is politicizing investigations and breaking federal laws.

Rep. Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.), argued for Barr to be impeached at a hearing on the politicization of the Justice Department (DOJ) on Wednesday. Other Democrats supported Cohen, similarly calling in for impeachment.

“We should pursue impeachment of Bill Barr because he is reigning terror on the rule of law,” Cohen said.

Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-New Jersey) supported Cohen’s comment via Twitter on Wednesday.

House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler told CNN Wednesday that his committee “may very well” impeach Barr. He had previously threatened Barr with a subpoena and is investigating him at the moment for politicizing investigations.

In late July, Barr is set to testify before the committee after dropping the criminal case against Trump’s former national security adviser, Michael Flynn, in relation to Russia probe and for dismissing harsh sentence for a longtime President Donald Trump supporter Roger Stone, who has been sentenced to 40 months in jail for election-related crimes. One of the prosecutors in the Stone case testified that Barr and DOJ leaders pressured them to give Stone a lighter sentence because of his friendship with Trump.
