The NFL schedule has been released and with that, it means that fans can start buying tickets for the 2020 season. Over the course of the next few weeks, we here at uSports will be dissecting the regular season schedules of each of the NFL teams, and tell you what games you are going to want to attend.

Although the NFC East was arguably the worst division in football last season in the sense that it was the only division in the NFL in 2019 with no ten win teams, while also having the teams with the second and fourth overall picks in the draft. Nevertheless, the Eagles were able to come out of the division victorious with a 9-7 record and were one cheap shot on Carson Wentz away from possibly beating the Seahawks in the wild card round. The success of this team starts and ends with the health of their star quarterback in Wentz. Had Wentz not gone down with an injury in the playoffs, they could have made a mini run. It will be interesting to see what role will Jalen Hurts, who they took in the second round of the 2020 draft. Will he surpass Wentz on the depth chart or just be a gadget guy like Taysom Hill in New Orleans. Miles Sanders looks to be the featured back on this team and is projected to play immensely well. The injury of Brandon Brooks will hurt this team and the success of their running game, but there are still some solid pieces on their offensive line in Jason Kecle and Lane Johnson. Eagles management also addressed one of their biggest needs this offseason in wide receiver. Alshon Jeffery and DeSean Jackson look to be healthy once again, then they also traded for Marquise Goodwin and drafted Jalen Reagor, both of whom will add some depth to this receiver group. The Eagles also have two very capable tight ends in Zach Ertz and Dallas Goedert. On defense, Darius Slay looks to be a nice addition on a secondary that was not the greatest last season. There are rumors of Jets’ safety Jamal Adams possibly being traded to this team which would raise their odds significantly to repeat as division champs. This defense is anchored by their defensive line with Fletcher Cox, Brandon Graham and Derek Barnett, among others. This team is now a few years removed from their Super Bowl championship, and with a now reloaded Cowboys team Doug Pederson will have a tall task in front of him but he has got a good enough team to get the job done.

Looking at the Eagles’ schedule, they will have a tough road to repeat as division champs. Compared to the Cowboys, the Eagles will play all of the other first place teams in each division, while the Cowboys will play the second place teams just because of their respective records from a year ago. But I will say there is an opportunity there for the Eagles to repeat as division champs. Prior to their Week 9 bye, there are some really winnable games to start the season against the Redskins, Rams and Bengals. They will then go through a tough stretch from Weeks 4 to 6, where they will go on the road to San Francisco, then fly back to play Pittsburgh, in Pittsburgh, then play Baltimore. This will not be an easy stretch (not the hardest stretch on their schedule but we will get to that), but they will then play the Giants in Week 7 which should be a win. If the Eagles can enter their Week 8 match at home against the Cowboys 4-3 or 5-2, they would be set up really nicely for the second half of their season, especially if they got a win against Dallas which they probably should barring a massive injury. After their bye week, this will be the portion of the Eagles’ season where they either make or miss the playoffs. They have a tough stretch of games from Week 12 to Week 16 where they will play teams who all have their eyes toward the playoffs in Seattle, Green Bay, New Orleans, Arizona and Dallas. The Eagles will have to have a record of 3-2 or better in those five games in order to have a chance of making the playoffs. Do I think they can do well in those games, yes but it will not be easy.
Being that the Eagles are expected to be in or around the playoff hunt here in 2020, I will be very intrigued to watch them and will want to go see them. Here are the five Eagles games I will try to go to during the 2020 season:
- Week 4: Eagles at 49ers
- Week 7: Giants at Eagles
- Week 12: Seahawks at Eagles
- Week 14: Saints at Eagles
- Week 16: Eagles at Cowboys
These games will all have their various challenges for the Eagles. Starting off with Week 4 against the 49ers, after a relatively easy start in their first three games, the Eagles will have to go out West to San Francisco to start a three week stretch where the Eagles will play three possible playoff teams in the 49ers, Steelers and Ravens, which includes the number-1 seeds in both the NFC and AFC in 2019 in the 49ers and Ravens. A win here could do a lot for the Eagles’ confidence. Also, at least entering the season the 49ers are a part of the teams who are a tier above the Eagles in the NFC, if they could beat the Niners, it will show that the Eagles are not to be messed with. Next we have Week 7 against the Giants. A rivalry game that always seems to have a little bit extra added to it. After coming off that stretch of tough games from Week 4 through 6, this could be considered a trap game for the Eagles. They could be caught looking ahead to the Cowboys in Week 8 and could definitely lose to the Giants because of that. Pederson will have to keep his team focused on this matchup. Week 12 against Seattle and Week 14 against New Orleans, similar to that game against San Francisco, these are two teams who appear to be in that tier above the Eagles in the NFC. If the Eagles can go 2-1 against the 49ers, Seahawks and Saints in 2020, they could definitely make some noise in the NFC playoffs and possibly make it back to the Super Bowl. These two games specifically, late in the year, could be crucial in terms of seeing in the NFC playoffs. Finally, Week 16 against the Cowboys, in Dallas, this game will decide the division. It has been that way the last few years where the second matchup between these two teams have meant a lot for the playoffs. If you are a fan of football, you will want to watch this game because emotions will be high and there will be a lot riding on it. Plus, we will really get to see how good this Eagles defense is against a top offense, even after it gets reshuffled, because let’s be real there will be injuries that the Eagles will have to overcome.
