Amazon has announced plans to add a space business segment to its cloud computing branch. The e-commerce company is expanding its Amazon Web Services with the introducing of Aerospace and Satellite Solutions. Retired US Air Force Major General Clint Crosier will be leading the segment, and he has described the current era as the "most exciting time in space since the Apollo missions". He added in a statement: "I have watched AWS transform the IT industry over the last 10 years and be instrumental in so many space milestones. "I am honoured to join AWS to continue to transform the industry and propel the space enterprise forward." The new segment will strive to "reimagine space system architectures" and "transform space enterprises", while also launching new services to "process space data on Earth and in orbit". In a blog post, Google also revealed the segment will "provide secure, flexible, scalable, and cost-efficient cloud solutions to support government missions and companies advancing space around the world".
