Actress Kelly Preston, wife of John Travolta, has died after a two-year battle with breast cancer at age 57.
Travolta posted on Instagram in tribute to his late wife. He said, “It is with a very heavy heart that I inform you that my beautiful wife Kelly has lost her two-year battle with breast cancer. She fought a courageous fight with the love and support of so many.” He then added, “Kelly’s love and life will always be remembered. I will be taking some time to be there for my children who have lost their mother, so forgive me in advance if you don’t hear from us for a while. But please know that I will feel your outpouring of love in the weeks and months ahead as we heal.”
The couple’s daughter Ella Bleu Travolta also took to Instagram. She wrote, “I have never met anyone as courageous, strong, beautiful and loving as you. Anyone who is lucky enough to have known you or to have ever been in your presence will agree that you have a glow and a light that never ceases to shine and that makes anyone around you feel instantly happy.”
Preston died on Sunday morning and explained that Preston had been, “Choosing to keep her fight private, she had been undergoing medical treatment for some time, supported by her closest family and friends.”
Preston’s last public appearance was in June 2018 was for the premiere of Travolta’s film Gotti which both Preston and Travolta starred in.
Preston had first started her career as an actress when she appeared in television shows CHiPs and Roseanne. In 1988, she had one of her first major role Marnie Mason on the show Twins. Later in 1988, Preston and Travolta met during a screen test for the movie The Experts and in 1992 the couple eloped in Paris, France.
In 1992, Preston gave birth to her first child with Travolta Jett and then had daughter Ella in 2000. In 2009, Jett died after having a seizure. In 2010, Preston and Travolta welcomed their son Benjamin.
The couple is well known for being influential members of the Church of Scientology.
