SNL's Kellyanne Conway 'Fatal Attraction' skit: WASHINGTON, DC - JANUARY 22: Counselor to President, Kellyanne Conway, prepares to appear on the Sunday morning show Meet The Press, from the north lawn at the White House, January 22, 2017 in...

Kellyanne Conway announced that she is officially stepping down as senior counselor to the president at the end of this month, and her husband George Conway announced that he is withdrawing from his post at the Lincoln Project.

“For now, and for my beloved children, it will be less drama, more mama,” Kellyanne Conway wrote in a statement announcing her departure.

“I am deeply grateful to the President for this honor, and to the First Lady, the Vice President and Mrs. Pence, my colleagues in the White House and the Administration, and the countless people who supported me and my work,” she said. She also called her job at the White House “heady” and “humbling.” Kellyanne Conway served as the senior adviser to the president after Trump won the election with her as his campaign manager. She was the first female campaign manager to win a presidential race.

Anti-Trump Republican George Conway announced his departure from The Lincoln Project in a tweet, “So I’m withdrawing from @ProjectLincoln to devote more time to family matters. And I’ll be taking a Twitter hiatus. Needless to say, I continue to support the Lincoln Project and its mission. Passionately.”

The Conways both cited family matters as the reason for stepping away from their jobs. In recent weeks, the couple’s daughter, Claudia Conway, has been in the headlines for publicly disagreeing with her family’s political views.

In her statement Kellyanne Conway wrote that George and her “disagree about plenty but we are united on what matters most: the kids.”

“Our four children are teens and ‘tweens starting a new academic year, in middle school and high school, remotely from home for at least a few months,” she wrote. “As millions of parents nationwide know, kids “doing school from home” requires a level of attention and vigilance that is as unusual as these times.”

On Monday, Conway confirmed that she will still be speaking at the Republican National Convention this week.
